Story Of A Spartan Helmet Tattoo
There are all kinds of mythical tattoos that one can get. You’ll see medieval shields, weapons, helmets, and even armors emblazoned on the bodies of many people. A local tattoo parlor recently tattood my brother Dave with a Spartan helmet tattoo. This tattoo has special significance to him and I because are ancestors lived in Sparta.
Dave has been a huge fan of the spartan movies and has seen the movie “300” almost that many times. We came up with the idea of using a helmet because it is the most easily identifiable piece of Spartan gear. Eventually he’ll get a Spartan shield on his left arm and a Spartan spear on his right arm. Dave may even the word Spartan tattooed onto his stomach. The tattoo will loop up and then back down in a wide arc so that it looks more dramatic.
When we first brought Dave to our local tattoo parlor and asked the tattoo artist to place a Spartan helmet on his chest he said he couldn’t do it. The artist said he would like to try, but he did not really have a good idea of what a Spartan helmet looked like. Dave and I said that we would try to get him a picture of the helmet and come back. Rather than get a picture we eventually decided to go to armor venue and just purchase a nice replica. This Spartan helmet looked stunning and the purchase price was around eighty dollars before shipping costs. We received the helmet in the mail very quickly and were able to order it with our Discover card.
Once we got the helmet we went back down to the tattoo parlor with the helmet. We showed the artist the helmet and he became really excited about the job. He had a great sketch ready for us in a few short minutes. After thinking it over Dave asked for a temporary helmet tattoo to be placed onto him so that he could decide if it looked good on his chest. After this we told him we would come back in a week to let him know if Dave wanted to go through with the tattoo.
As you may have guessed, Dave decided to get the helmet tattoo. He now proudly has his Spartan helmet tattoo displayed on his chest. He has received many compliments on the tattoo, even one from our mother. We didn’t think she’d ever approve of him getting the tattoo, so we were very happy.
